The camera works in many ways as my extended sketchbook. It captures a different and very literal aspect of the visual experience and excludes any response to smell, taste and sound in the marks it makes. Those luscious senses may well be evoked in the viewer by the end image but the image itself is not party to their effects in its creation. Capturing detail is an exhilarating part of the experience and the excitement in waiting to see what has been captured is all part of the process.
